The Department of Pharmacy Practice, Yenepoya Pharmacy College & Research Centre was established in the year 2021 with an attempt to introduce diversified clinical pharmacy services and train the pharmacy students to provide pharmaceutical health care services. Pharmacy practice department is in collaboration with Yenepoya medical college hospital which is a 1100 bedded hospital, comprising of specialties such as: General Medicine, General Surgery, Pulmonary Medicine, Ophthalmology, ENT, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Pediatrics, OBG, Orthopedics and super-specialties such as: Neurology, Neurosurgery, Gastroenterology, Surgical Gastroenterology, Surgical Oncology, Plastic Surgery, Oral Surgery, Urology, Nephrology, Pediatric, Surgery, Endocrinology. The Yenepoya (deemed to be university) has the simulation Centre facility (ACTS-YEN) in order to provide effective hands-on training to Pharm D and Pharmacy Practice students on practical related aspects.

The department primarily aims to serve for the needs of the clinicians and patients by initiating wide range of services including medication therapy management to prevent underutilization, over-utilization, inappropriate use and irrational drug usage, patient counselling for the purpose of motivating patients to adhere to the prescribed drugs, drug information services to enhance overall patient knowledge regarding medications, medication reconciliation to compare patient’s medication orders to medication history, helping to avoid different types of medication errors, pharmacovigilance and periodic safety update report (PSUR) to ensure patient safety and involving causality assessment of adverse events, Adverse Drug Reaction reporting and monitoring, Clinical Research and health screening program, community outreach program and continuing pharmacy education program with an objective of periodic and consistent organizing of workshops, seminars, conferences, symposiums at the National and International level.

Core competencies of Pharmacy Practice department includes: Pharmaceutical care services, Drug and poison information services, Pharmacovigilance, Pharmaco-metrics, Pharmacogenomics, Pharmaco-economics, Clinical Toxicology, Clinical Research, Clinical Translational Research, Antibiotic stewardship, Pharmaco-epidemiology, Drug Utilization and Evaluation, Systematic review and Meta-analysis studies.

Currently the department handles the courses related to Pharmacy Practice in D. Pharm, B. Pharm and Pharm D programs. These courses impart the information about the Hospital and hospital pharmacy training like Interaction with other health professionals, ward round participation for better understanding of case studies, drug information services, pharmacovigilance and telemedicine, patient counselling and communication skills, Online drug interaction checking with the help of software's, demonstration
