PHARMACOGNOSY

Pharmacognosy is a branch of science that involves a detailed study of drugs obtained from natural origin, including name, habitat, collection, cultivation, macroscopy, microscopy, physical properties, chemical constituents, therapeutic actions, uses, adulterants, extraction, formulation, and different pharmacological activities. Pharmacognosy is an important branch of pharmacy that plays a key role in new drug discovery and development by using natural products. Drugs from natural origin can be obtained by plants, animals (terrestrial and marine), microorganisms, and minerals The subject is one of the core branches in the pharmacy curriculum and therefore found an important niche in the Yenepoya Pharmacy College & Research Centre as a coveted department. The department enjoys the reputation of being one of the most sophisticated and well-equipped departments in the region. Our faculties are the reason for our continued ability to foster vibrant and value-adding learning experiences for our students.
